The Best of 2024: Strength and Conditioning Articles

About the Author: Eric Cressey

With 2024 winding down, I’m using this last week of the year to direct you to some of the most popular content of the past 12 months at EricCressey.com. Today, we start with the most popular articles of the year. While I’ve trended away from long-form written content and more to podcasts and videos over the years, but there were still some good ones from 2024 to reincarnate from the archives.

1.“Designer” Pitches, Horizontal Movement, and the Pitching Injury Epidemic – Early in the year, renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Keith Meister gave a fantastic interview about the current state of arm injuries in baseball. He made a lot of good points, but one that particularly intrigued me was his commentary on how “designer pitches” were to blame for some of the challenges we’re facing in today’s game. I dug in deeper on the topic in this article.

2. Does Posture Actually Matter? – You often find people who claim that static posture doesn’t matter. They’re typically internet trolls or folks from the steadfast evidence-based crowd looking to stir up controversy, so I shrug them off. However, in light of an athlete I evaluated earlier this year, I did this quick writeup to articulate my perspective.

3. Individualization and the College Baseball Athlete – Training college athletes isn’t easy. In this article, I dug in on the complexities that face strength and conditioning coaches who work with this population in the baseball world, but the lessons are universal across sports.

4. Osteokinematics, Arthrokinematics, and the Fascial System – Fascia is getting a lot more love in the strength and conditioning and rehabilitation communities these days – and I’m psyched about that. The interplay between osteokinematics and arthrokinematics is an essential part of the fascia discussion, but I’ve never head anyone write or speak about it. I looked to change that with this article.

5. Prone External Rotation Compensation PatternsThis was a quick look at a common arm care substitution pattern we see when throwers are working on end-range external rotation.

I’ll be back soon with another “Best of 2024” feature. Up next, the top guest posts of the year!
